چکیده
Environmental pollutants with hormonal activity, such as xenoestrogens, have for several years been of concern as potential risk factors for hormone dependant tumors. Impacts of increasing levels of xenoestrogens have been observed in aquatic organisms. In humans concern has been focused on ”endocrine disrupting chemicals” with either estrogenic or antiestrogenic activities. Some persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and especially the hydroxylated metabolites, and chlordanes, have been postulated to be endocrine disruptors. 4 PCBs have been shown to reverse gonadal sex in turtle and abnormalities of reproductive development has been described in juvenile alligators living in contaminated environment in Florida. 7 Hexachlorobenzene (HCB) has been shown to have endocrine-disrupting properties. Also p,p’-dichlorodiphenyl-dichloroethylene (p,p’-DDE) the most persistent metabolite of p,p ́-DDT has been postulated to be an environmental endocrine disruptor.

Concentrations of organohalogen compounds and titres of antibodies to Epstein-Barr virus antigens and the risk for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Exposure to some pesticides and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has been indicated to be a risk factor for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been associated with some subgroups of NHL. In a previous study we found an interaction between high concentrations of some POPs and titres of antibodies to EBV early antigen (EA IgG) in relation to NHL. In the present study w...

Muscle samples were collected from pup, juvenile and adult Weddell seals (Leptonychotes weddellii) near McMurdo Sound, Antarctica during the austral summer of 2006. Blubber samples were collected from juvenile and adult seals. Samples were analyzed for emerging and legacy persistent organic pollutants (POPs) including current and historic-use organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls...
متن کاملInfluence of age, season, body condition and geographical area on concentrations of chlorinated and brominated contaminants in wild mink (Neovison vison) in Sweden.
The wild mink has gained acceptance as a sentinel species in environmental monitoring. However, only limited data are available in the literature on factors driving variability in concentrations of organic pollutants in this species. This study characterizes the differences in contaminant concentrations in subcutaneous fat of male mink from four different areas in Sweden and demonstrates how ag...
متن کاملValidation and application of an analytical method for determination of Persistent Organic Pollutants in Rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) collected from Tehran retail markets
Persistent organic pollutants are a wide group of toxic and dangerous compounds. These organic compounds are chemically and physically stable even beams. In this study an analysis method for simultaneous determination of 18 persistent organic pollutants including eleven Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs): HCB, Dieldrin, Methoxychlor, α-, ϒ-Chlordane, α-, β-Endosulfan and o,p’-DDE, p,p’-DDE, o,p’-...
